With a surreal artistic edge, THE WAIT LIST EXPERIMENT promotes access to optimism for a post-pandemic future. Eight youth who are on wait lists to see therapists have been recommended for an experimental pandemic peer support program, which takes place in the eye of somewhere unknown. Their journey has been long and full of unexpected experiences which force them to face, work through, and finally embrace their fears.
Closing out Studio 58’s 56th season (and the first live season since the pandemic) is Six of One: New Play Festival. A celebration of short form plays written by Studio 58 students; Six of One is an opportunity to hear from some of Canada’s newest playwrights. Over two programs, these six snappy new works (plus a bonus one!) reveal fresh ideas and innovative theatre making.
The Frank Theatre Co. presents I Cannot Lie to the Stars That Made Me, a musical audio play. This adaptation is a deeply intimate audio drama, following a grieving young mother as she sings, commiserates and shares stories with her fellow women of colour around a campfire. While centering joy and healing, Stars offers a raw and unflinching meditation on race, class and queer partnerships. Through poignant confessions and original choral music, I Cannot Lie to the Stars celebrates the power of community.
In this 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama finalist, the character of "Everybody” (chosen from amongst the cast by lottery at each performance) has been summoned by “Death” to account for their life. Along their journey they meet characters such as "Friendship", "Love", and "Strength" as they reflect on the human condition and invite the audience to the same.
